OWNER OF THE FIRST HOUSE MADE COMPLETELY FROM EMPTY STEEL BEER AND SOFT DRINK CANS SITS IN HIS LIVING ROOM NEAR TAOS, NEW MEXICO. EIGHT CANS ARE MADE INTO BLOCK LIKE UNITS AND COVERED WITH MORTAR FOR THE EXTERIOR WALLS. INTERIOR WALLS ARE MADE FROM INDIVIDUAL CANS LAID HORIZONTALLY. THE CEILING IS FINISHED WITH SPRAYED ON REPROCESSED PAPER. THE ARCHITECT FEELS SUCH HOUSES CAN BE BUILT FOR AS MUCH AS 20% LESS THAN CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURES, 06/1974

THE SOLAR FURNACE OPERATED FOR THE U.S. ARMY AT WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, ALAMOGORDO, NEW MEXICO. THIS TEST PIECE OF ALUMINUM SHOWS WHERE THE SUN'S RAYS WERE FOCUSED IN A FOUR INCH DIAMETER. IT TOOK ABOUT 15 SECONDS FOR RAYS FROM THE MIRROR TO MELT THROUGH THE QUARTER INCH PLATE, 04/1974

UNLOADING OIL-LADEN DEBRIS FROM THE SAN JUAN RIVER ONTO DISPOSAL SITE IN MONUMENT VALLEY, UTAH. A BURST PIPELINE NEAR SHIPROCK, NEW MEXICO, RELEASED SOME 285,000 GALLONS OF CRUDE OIL INTO THE RIVER.
