General Note(s):There were 10 companies of Sea Fencibles organized under an act of July 26, 1813. These units were employed on land as well as on sea for the defense of the ports and harbors of the United States and retained in service to June 15, 1815, when they were discharged under acts of March 3, 1815. No field officers were authorized or appointed.
Six companies of Rangers were organized under an act of January 2, 1812, for one year, and on July 1 an additional company was authorized under the same provisions and restrictions. On February 25, 1813, 10 additional companies were authorized for one year in lieu of one of the regiments of infantry that had been authorized on January 29. An act of August 2, 1813, more fully defined the organization of these 10 additional companies; by an act of January 27, 1814, they were retained in service, and they were discharged on June 15, 1815, under an act of March 3 of that year. No field officers were authorized or appointed.
