| Function and Use: | This artificially created series consists of records released in compliance with the Nazi War Crimes, and Japanese Imperial Government, Disclosure Acts (Public Laws 105-246 and 105-567). The Acts call for the Interagency Working Group (IWG) to locate, inventory, recommend for declassification, and make available all classified Nazi and Japanese war criminal records, subject to certain specified exceptions. The IWG tasked federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to search their record holdings for relevant war criminal and war crimes documents responsive to personal name and subject terms identified by the IWG. In complying with the Acts, the FBI selected the records that now make up this series from among its Classification 61 field office case files. |
