|Custodial History Note:||Executive Order 9621; October 1, 1945; discontinued the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Research and Analysis Branch records were transferred first to the Strategic Services Unit, and ultimately to the Department of State. XL intelligence reports were accessioned by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in February 1950. It was noted by NARA staff that this series contained some charge-out cards created by the Department of State. Until the late 1950's, whenever one of these cards was encountered, NARA staff called the Department of State library staff, who would then forward the appropriate intelligence report to NARA. The document would be interfiled into the accessioned records.
In 1958, the State Department transferred approximately 800 cubic feet of its library collection to NARA for records center storage. It is assumed that OSS Research and Analysis Branch XL intelligence reports were part of this accession. NARA recommended disposal of the library collection under the authority for non-record material. The State Department chief of the Records Services Division approved disposal in 1973.
