On the regimental muster rolls the names of field officers (colonel, lieutenant colonel, and major) precede the names of staff officers (adjutant, paymaster, surgeon, quartermaster, and chaplain), and each list is arranged in descending order of rank. Occasionally, the names of company officers are listed after those of the staff officers.
