Chief among these were to measure the prevalence, incidence and other rates of drinking levels, alcohol use disorders, and their associated disabilities; to identify risk factors of alcohol use and associated disabilities; to determine the economic impact of alcohol and drug use disorders and the relationships between alcohol and drug use disorders and other psychiatric conditions; to estimate the size, characteristics, and time trends of target populations including alcohol and drug abusers; and to obtain information on alcohol and drug treatment utilization.
