| Function and Use: | The agency conducted the CPS on behalf of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. CPS was used to provide monthly estimates of employment, unemployment and other characteristics of the general labor force, of the population as a whole and of various subgroups of the population. Supplemental questions were often added to the regular CPS interview in a particular month to gather in-depth information on specific aspects of the labor force or other topics. The agency routinely released public use microdata files with CPS microdata beginning in 1968. |
