Arrangement:	Overall arrangement of prints and negatives is alphabetical by subject, proceeding from "AEF" (American Expeditionary Force) to "Yugoslavia." Boxes 1-91 all fall within the "AEF" heading; sub-headings are alphabetical by geographical location, and thereunder by subject (EXAMPLE- AEF -- Germany -- Cologne -- Air Airborne Troops). For the remainder of the series, the alphabetical sequence follows major subject headings that correspond to places, activities, or groups. The major headings are sub-divided alphabetically, as above. (EXAMPLES- France -- Armed Forces -- Africa -- Morocco; Prisoners -- Liberated -- Germany -- British; Production Tanks -- M-3).

Such items comprise some 40% of the series. For prints bearing 208-N negative numbers with two or three letter photographic source codes, translations of these codes can be found on a sheet attached to the box list, described above.
Numbering Note:	For prints and negatives that do not bear Series N copy negative numbers- Record group, series designator, box number, folder designator (A-Z), item number assigned by NARA. (EXAMPLE- 208-AA-180B-4). In cases where there are more than 26 folders within a box, the A-Z sequence is followed by an AA-ZZ sequence. Item numbers assigned by NARA staff should also be noted on NARA cross-index cards. For prints that bear Series N copy negative numbers, either marked on the back in grease pencil or included in the printed caption- Record group, series designator, box number, folder designator (A-Z, AA-ZZ), and the copy negative number (EXAMPLE- 208-AA-47F-32356). Series N numbers, 1-47751, appearing on the back of prints or in captions can be distinguished by the two or three-letter alphabetical code, following each number, that refers to photographic source (EXAMPLES- PME, for Acme Newspictures, Inc.; FA, for U.S. Army).

Finding Aid Note:	A 14-page typewritten container list indicates the subject headings on the first and last folders within each box (EXAMPLE- Box 252- Losses -- Axis -- Ships -- Africa to Losses --Germany -- Armed Forces France -- Paris); and a 250-page typewritten folder list includes the subject headings on all the folders within each box. Both lists are in the Finding Aid drawer in the NARA Research Room. Some additional guidance to names and subjects covered by Series AA is furnished by the joint card-index (Record Group 208, Series Z) to Series N (negatives), Series AA, MO, and other print series. The names portion of this index covers some 3,300 leading military and political figures depicted among the Series N negatives. Most of the cards indicate the headings on print series folders in which prints including the respective figures can be found. The subjects portion of the index incorporates more than 9,000 categories, most taken from Series AA and MO folder headings.
